On September 4 the Global Water Partnership (GWP) arranges a unique lecture with the prominent and internationally recognized Dr. Ismail Serageldin, former Vice-President of the World Bank, the founding Chair of GWP, and currently Librarian and Director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt. Dr Serageldin was instrumental in establishing GWP in 1995 and continues to support GWP as a Patron.
Burkina Faso is situated in the Sahelian zone, experiences high temperatures, unpredictable and variable rainfall. The country's surface area is 274,200 km² with altitudes between 150 and 750 metres above sea level.
With a surface area of 27,834 square km², Burundi is located between the 29° and 30°25 eastern meridians and between the 2°20 and 4°25 southern parallels. Burundi’s population is estimated at 8 million inhabitants.
In 2009 the Uva Provincial Council and National Water Supply and Drainage Board sought help from GWP Sri Lanka to set up a provincial water resources committee. This request was prompted by a new government policy recommending that provincial water resources committees should be set up to manage drinking water at river basin scale.
GWP West Africa played a key role in a series of meetings that agreed on a training module for water science for higher degrees – bachelors, masters and doctorates – throughout Francophone Africa.
