The 7th SADC Multi Stakeholder Water Dialogue, a biennial activity which provides a platform for regional stakeholders to discuss and share experiences on different aspects of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) will this year be held from the 29th to the 30th of September in Windhoek, Namibia. Running under the theme “Watering Development in SADC: The central role of water in driving industrialization” this year's Water Dialogue will focus on unpacking the role that water will play in driving industrialisation in the region. On March 20, 2015, before the world water day, the GWP China Fujian organized the “Training Workshop on Development of Water-Eco Civilization Progress” in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province with the support of GWP China and the Water Resources Department of Fujian Province.
The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) has embarked on a new initiative under its Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP) called “Climate-Proofing Water Investment in the Caribbean” which is being executed in partnership with the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre (CCCCC).
There is a need for stakeholders to be organized, capacitated and empowered in order to be effectively involved in decision-making processes in the development and management of shared water resources, improved climate resilience, poverty alleviation and ensuring that water resources are secure. With that objective in mind, GWP SA through the Namibia Water Partnership conducted its first training workshop aimed at broadening stakeholder participation in Transboundary Water Resources Management in the Orange – Senqu basin.
The 5th Conference of the 2nd GWP China Council was held on June 6, 2014, in Beijing. Chaired by Mr. Wang Shucheng, Chair of GWP China, the conference convened twenty four council members, the staff of GWP China Region Secretariat and the representatives of GWP China Provincial/River Basin Water Partnerships to review the annual report of 2013 and work plan of 2014.
Five partner institutions are organising a joint training on International Water Law (IWL) in Africa. The experiences and lessons learnt will be used as a pilot to develop a 5-year-long (2016-2020) training programme on IWL, with the aim to improve transboundary water management in Africa. Interested candidates are welcome to apply for funded training before 25 June 2015.
The World Water Forum 7 is happening in Korea this year from 10-18th April 2015. The theme is ‘Water for Our Future’. The key focus will be on the Sustainable Development Goals and water security.
GWP Eastern Africa’s communication and knowledge management strategies and activities are informed by the objectives imbedded in the overall GWP communications strategy and work plans.
GWP Central America organized a workshop for 25 municipal leaders and technical personnel of civil society that work on water issues. The event, which focused on risk management, took place in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, on February 23-27.
