During the 2017-2018 data drive conducted by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) to establish the baseline for SDG indicator 6.5.1, the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme supported countries in convening multi-stakeholder consultation workshops to determine the current status of IWRM implementation and collect and discuss the official country data.

The GWP Latin American International Water Law Training Programme held a successful VIII edition of a regional workshop with focus on La Plata Basin on 26-29 September. It was attended by 23 participants from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay, most of them from public institutions.

IUCN-PACO organized from May 18 to 21, 2016 in Leo, Burkina Faso, in collaboration with the Volta Bassin Authority (VBA), and GWP / WA a workshop to develop the outline of the concept note on the conservation and restoring of conserving and restoring ecosystem functioning in the Volta basin.

The Ghana Country Water Partnership (CWP-Ghana) hosted the 7th Technical Coordination workshop of the Water, Climate and Development Program (WACDEP) from Monday 5th October to Wednesday 7th October, 2015 at the La-Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra. The purpose of the meeting was to share progress, approaches and lessons learnt in delivering the WACDEP outputs in the 8 countries rolling out the program. It also served as a platform to discuss the key constraints and opportunities identified during implementation, and set the stage for scaling up WACDEP implementation.

The UN World Water Development Report 2017 (WWDR 2017) will be presented at the European Parliament in Brussels on 6 June. At this event, GWP will be part of a panel discussion on the value of wastewater in the circular economy.

Building water security and climate resilience into development activities is key to achieving long-term sustainability, but requires much higher levels of investment than at present. This policy brief presents innovative approaches to financing, which are needed to make sufficient funding available. Policy briefs provide policy makers with information on water resources management. This brief was developed under the Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).

“Water, gender and development are closely interconnected, and GWP realizes this fully. We think that water empowers women, and empowered women transform their societies.” These are the words of GWP Interim Chair Alice Bouman-Dentener on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2016 (#IWD2016).
