The 6th African Young Water Professionals Forum by GWP-Med, the International Commission for Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) and partners organised under the platform of the 6th Cairo Water Week highlighted the urgent need to integrate a gender lens into all initiatives on water, climate and development, for sustainable investments.
Stakeholders in Ghana organized on 29 and 30 April 2024 a national workshop to review the integration of disaster risk reduction (DRR) and climate change adaptation (CCA) policies, plans, and guidelines at local, national, and transboundary levels in the Volta Basin.
The session coordinated by GWP-WA was held on Thursday 23 May 2024 at the Senegal Pavilion during the World Water Forum in Bali, Indonesia. Facilitated by the GWP-WA Chair, Mr Abdoulaye SENE, it featured the distinguished visits of the Senegalese Minister for Water and Sanitation, Dr Cheick Tidiane DIEYE, and the Executive Secretary/CEO of GWPO, Mr Alan ATKISSOON.
Since its inception in 2003, GWPEA has partnered with various organizations to address water security issues in the Eastern Africa and Nile Basin region. As a custodian of integrated water resources management (IWRM) in the Region, GWPEA draws on 20 years of multi-level implementing experience, enabled by a functional interface with global development agendas, leadership, and finance flows.
During the 18th World Water Resources Congress in Beijing, CCTV's "Focus Interview" produced a themed interview on values and contributions of reclaimed water, JIANG Yunzhong, regional secretary general of GWP China, explained audiences how reused water can help cities "quench thirst".
Chad, Congo, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, Gabon, and Sao Tome and Principe have completed the third round of reporting on indicator 6.5.1 of Sustainable Development Goal 6, which monitors the degree of implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).
Following the launch of Regional Strategy on Drought Risk Management and Mitigation for South Asia at the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the UNCCD which was held on 10 December 2024, the countries of GWP SAS conducted mini-launches and key stakeholder consultations locally. The key stakeholder consultations around the strategy facilitated identifying the national level priorities that should be developed into action plans by keeping the regional strategy as the guide.
On March 31, 2023, GWP China and the Shenzhen Dapeng New Area Administration signed MoU to set up the Marine Professional Committee of GWP China in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China.
