The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission, through the Commission's Water Resources Management Centre (WRMC), organised from 13 to 15 March 2023 in Lomé, Togo, the Regional Preparatory Concertation for the United Nations (UN) Water Conference of March 2023 and on the Strengthening of West African Cooperation on Water-related Issues

GWPEA is implementing the “Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD Region (DRESS-EA) Project in four Riparian countries of Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan, and Uganda. The project, which is undertaken in collaboration with the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) aims at increasing the resilience of smallholder farmers and pastoralists to climate change risks mainly those related to drought, through the establishment of appropriate early warning systems and implementation of drought adaptation actions in the IGAD region.

GWP is proud to be the lead organisation for this side event at the UN 2023 Water Conference. The event focuses on demonstrating practical approaches to drive cooperation and partnership at all levels in order to help to achieve internationally agreed water-related goals and targets, including those contained in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme assists governments in designing and implementing their responses to SDG indicator 6.5.1, the degree of implementation of IWRM, to accelerate progress towards the achievement of water-related SDGs and other development goals. This directly supports the official SDG monitoring and reporting processes, leading to measurable progress on the relevant SDG targets. The Support Programme is structured around 3 stages and offers also specific support on selected thematic priorities.

GWP-Central Africa joins the international community to celebrate the 2023 International Women’s Day commemorated under the theme, “DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. This year’s theme seeks to recognize and celebrate the women and girls who are championing the advancement of transformative technology and digital education. It also explores the impact of the digital gender gap on widening economic and social inequalities. (UN Women)

How can GWP support governments to better integrate gender into their IWRM plans and policies to improve country score on SDG 6.5.1? In response to this, GWP-Central Africa organized a multi-stakeholder consultation in Mbalmayo, Cameroon on February 22nd to test the gender checklist developed by the Global Water Partnership (GWPO) under its SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme.

At GWP CEE, we are looking for a new colleague to grow our team and support our goals as a new Project Manager.

Thirty-five stakeholders from state institutions, civil society organizations, parastatals, Research institutions and the private sector identified processes, actors, and information systems involved in the development of policies, laws, and projects at the national and local levels in the water and climate sector which can serve as entry points for gender.
