GWP-Central Africa is pleased to present to you its annual activity report (in french only) for the year 2022. This report highlights the main outputs of the GWP Network in central Africa at the regional and country (Rebuplic of Congo, Cameroon, Sao Tome and Principe, Chad, and the Central African Republic) levels. Midway into the implementation of GWP's Global Strategy 2020–2025, GWP-Central Africa has made good strides in putting water at the heart of development by mobilizing key actors to seek joint solutions to urgent water and climate adaptation needs in the region.
We are exceptionally thankful to the governments of each country in which we are currently operating for their collaboration on advancing the water agenda. We thank our financial and technical partners for their continuous support and our network of partners for their support in the implementation of our global strategy.
The GIZ, GWPSA, and Lesotho Integrated Catchment Management (ICM) Coordination Unit (CU) undertook a learning exchange mission in Zambia from 24th to 28th October 2022, to capture best practices and experiences in catchment protection and restoration in the country. This engagement was aimed at the technical public service directors and heads of mandated institutions responsible for water, land, meteorology, local government, environment, food, and agriculture.
On the occasion of this year’s World Water Day, devoted to “Water for Peace”, we are presenting the ‘origins story’ of the successful transboundary collaboration for the protection of the Drin river basin, between 5 Riparians in Southeast Europe. This started 25 years ago, out of a shared desire to protect Europe’s oldest lake, Ohrid.
The members of the Steering Committee (SC) of the Global Water Partnership in West Africa (GWP-WA) met online on October 20, 2023 to analyze the progress of the network and provide guidance in line with their mandate to manage the regional network between two Assemblies of Partners (AP).
The handover ceremony took place on July 24, 2025, at the headquarters of the Niger Basin Authority (NBA) in Niamey, Niger, officially marking the appointment of Mr. Kocou Armand Houanye as the institution’s new Executive Secretary.
GWP-Med, as represented by its Host Institute MIO-ECSDE is conducting an open call for offers for Technical Assistance needed for the implementation of a Demonstration Activity related to Testing innovative technologies and partnerships for food security in Lebanon in the framework of the “GEF/UNEP Mediterranean Sea Programme (MedProgramme): Enhancing Environmental Security” and particularly its Child Project 2.2. (CP 2.2) with title “Mediterranean Coastal Zones: Managing the Water-Energy-Food and Ecosystems Nexus”
Since its inception in 2003, GWPEA has partnered with various organizations to address water security issues in the Eastern Africa and Nile Basin region. As a custodian of integrated water resources management (IWRM) in the Region, GWPEA draws on 20 years of multi-level implementing experience, enabled by a functional interface with global development agendas, leadership, and finance flows.
The 24th IAHR-APD Congress will be kicked off on October 14-17, 2024 in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. It is hosted by International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research Asia and Pacific Division (IAHR-APD), organized by Changjiang River Scientific Research Insititute (CRSRI) and Sichuan University (SCU), and jointly supported by GWP China Yangtze River Basin Water Partnership.
