Water is central to Africa's development. To implement the climate change commitments in the Sharm el Sheikh Declaration and address the threat of climate change in Africa, the management of water resources must move to the top of the development agenda. This is the overall goal of the Water, Climate and Development Programme for Africa, that runs from May 2011 to April 2016.

Total fresh water resources of the country including waters of the Danube River are estimated at 107,226.10 cubic kilometres (long-term annual average), which constitutes 14.1 thousand m3 per capita.
The workshop on Xiangjiang River Basin Management, organized by GWP China Hunan, was held on November 24 -25, 2011 in Hengyang, Hunan Province with over 70 participants from governmental agencies, research institutions, universities and NGOs. The Chisinau city action plan, formally adopted in December 2010, involved multi-faceted consultations between urban planners, water authorities, transport agencies, monitoring institutes, universities, and other important stakeholders, all with their own interests and technical vocabularies. As a neutral facilitator, GWP Moldova helped this diverse set of stakeholders realize that good water management is important for all.
The new State Water Policy of Rajasthan, the largest state in India by area, puts the emphasis on two components: an integrated water resources management approach and the efficient working of Water User Groups (WUG). During 2010, GWP India with the support of its Northern Zone Water Partner, organized two workshops for the capacity building of NGOs involved in the implementation of the new policy.
