The aim of the exercise is to test the checklist in a stakeholder consultation setting and to collect feedback from national stakeholders’ key aspects of Gender mainstreaming in IWRM.

The Mekrou Project Phase 2 Niger has purchased hydrogeological equipment that were offered to the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation for the monitoring of water resources.

The Lake Chad Basin Commission and GWP-Central Africa, with the support of the World Metrological Organization, organized the second regional stakeholder consultation for the "Integrated Water Resources Management and Early Warning System for Climate Change Resilience in the Lake Chad Basin" project. The regional workshop was held in N’Djamena, Chad, on March 29th–31st, 2023.

Phase 2 Niger of the Mekrou Project financed by the European Union is being implemented in the Niger portion of the Mekrou river basin by GWP-WA in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Sanitation through SP/PANGIRE NIGER and CWP Niger.

Burkina Faso shares three river basins with other countries in the sub-region. These are the Niger River Basin, whose Basin Authority includes 9 States, the Volta River Basin, whose Basin Authority includes 6 States, and the Comoé River Basin, shared by 4 States.

The implementation of the Mékrou project mobilises many actors at different levels. We have collected the testimonies of some of them.

The IWRM approach is relatively new in Niger and its implementation requires the information, sensitisation and organisation of the parties concerned at different levels (villages, Communes and sub-basin) for the setting up of appropriate bodies to protect and manage water resources with for the socio-economic development at the sub-basin level.
