Sardar Muhammad Tariq, born on 15 May 1939, has over 53 years experience in planning, design, tendering and construction management of water resources and hydropower development projects Asia. He was a former Chairman of the South Asia Technical Advisory Committee (SASTAC) and the Regional Chair of Global Water Partnership South Asia (GWP SAS) from 2010 to 2012. Time to time he held the position of Regional Council Member of GWP SAS representing Pakistan and currently holds the position of Executive Director/CEO of GWP Pakistan (Pakistan Water Partnership).

UN 2023 Water Conference – turning pledges into action through the second half of the Water Action Decade

As a leading authority on water governance, GWP continued to put water at the centre of development at the UN 2023 Water Conference by participating in and leading over 30 events, committing pledges to the Water Action Agenda, and launching a sourcebook on managing multistakeholder partnerships to improve the global management of water resources. Unveiling the Regional Strategy on Drought Risk Management and Mitigation for South Asia locally

Following the launch of Regional Strategy on Drought Risk Management and Mitigation for South Asia at the 16th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) to the UNCCD which was held on 10 December 2024, the countries of GWP SAS conducted mini-launches and key stakeholder consultations locally. The key stakeholder consultations around the strategy facilitated identifying the national level priorities that should be developed into action plans by keeping the regional strategy as the guide.
