A workshop “Gender dimensions in the sustainable management of natural resources through a Nexus approach in the Drina River Basin” was held online on June 23 2021. Approximately 80 stakeholders from Ministries, local NGOs, Nexus related institutions and agencies and academia from the Drina River Basin joined the workshop that focused on the interplay between sustainable management of natural resources and gender in the three countries of the region: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, and Serbia.

The first user need assessment workshop for piloted Hindon Dashboard was organised by GWP India (India Water Partnership) in collaboration with Tree Craze Foundation, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) volunteers on 13 July 2021, online.

The devastating floods in Western Europe highlight the serious weather extremes that are now affecting many parts of the world. Until recently, it was easy to overlook these events, thinking they only happened in poor and remote communities in less developed countries. Not anymore. The flooding last week shows that climate change is real, it is hitting close to home, and it’s affecting all of us.

Two virtual 2-day workshops focusing on ‘The Climate-Land-Energy-Water (CLEWs) modelling framework and its use in the Nexus Assessments of the Drin and the Drina River Basins’ were held on 6-7 July and 8-9 July 2021 respectively.

The 9th session of the Meeting of the Parties (MOP9) to the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes is organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in cooperation with the Government of Estonia. The event takes place on 29 September to 1 October, and will be in a hybrid format, in the Palais des Nations/Geneva and virtual. On the first day, GWP Executive Secretary Darío Soto-Abril will be a panellist in a high-level special segment on the theme of “Water and Peace”. Side events connected to the MOP9 will be held on 27-28 September.

Development of the AIP Water Investment Scorecard, which will mobilise water and sanitation investments in Africa through high-level political commitment, steamed ahead during July with partner meetings.

Soroptimist International of the Southwest Pacific (SISWP), Women for Water Partnership, and Netwwater are organising a digital event on 26 July on the theme "Women, Water, Climate: The Way Forward". The event is a follow-up to a series on the same theme last year.

Entrevista a Kenneth Alfaro Alvarado, Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper.

Kenneth Alfaro Alvarado is Project Cooridinator for Water Pollution Prevention at Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper in Costa Rica. The non-profit organisation has been a GWP Partner since 2013 - their motivation to join the GWP network was a wish to participate in the processes around Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). This interview describes the organisation and its partnership with GWP - it is also available in Spanish. 

As part of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) funded regional initiative, "Lake Chad Management Improvement Support" project, jointly implemented by the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the LCBC in collaboration with GWP Central Africa (GWP-CAf) organized a regional workshop in Douala, Cameroon from July 6th – 9th, 2021 to train national and regional trainers on the implementation of Integrated Water Resource Management (IWRM) approach at the transboundary level within a climate change context.
