Two years of intensive work undertaking joint efforts to increase water management adaptation to climate change in Central Europe is in the final stage.

The 2021 edition of the European Development Days (EDD21) will take place on 15-16 June. The event is fully digital, and the theme is "The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future". On the first day, the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, which GWP coordinates in partnership with UNEP, UNEP-DHI Centre and Cap-Net UNDP, will be featured in a session on "Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) to accelerate progress on the SDGs". The 2nd Danube Floodplain (Online) Webinar was successfully held on 7 October 2021 with over 50 participants who actively engaged with questions and comments to the discussion.

The Continental African Water Investment Programme "Water, Climate, Development and Gender Investments" aims to promote gender-transformative planning, decision-making, and institutional development for water secure and climate-resilient water investments and job creation interventions, in order to advance gender equality.

The Benin WACDEP-G team together with the CWP hold on 7 December 2021 a workshop to validate the report on the development of a shared vision on gender transformative approach in Benin. The event took place in Grand Popo with main partners including the Directorate general of environment and climate (DGEC), the FNEC, the NDA, focal points of various ministries, CSOs in gender promotion and consultants.

From November 29 to December 03 in Porto-Novo, Benin, the Country Water Partnership, and the WACDEP-G in Benin organized a national training workshop for key actors on how to access the GCF funding.

To support Cameroon in the implementation of its new national development strategy 2030 which aims in part to ensure food security, the Department of National Meteorology of the Ministry of Transport (MINT) and GWP-Cameroon joined forces with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) to address climate vulnerabilities in the Far North Region through a practical training of farmers in Meri on the weather, climate, and agriculture from August 18th - 20th, 2021.

How well is the world managing its water resources? To answer that question, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), with the UNEP-DHI Centre and Global Water Partnership (GWP), have analysed the responses from 186 countries to the survey instrument on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicator 6.5.1 – the degree of implementation of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) – showing that the world as a whole has advanced from 49% in 2017 to 54% in 2020. While this does show definite progress, 107 countries are currently not on track to meet the target of implementing IWRM by 2030, and to reach the global goal, the current rate of implementation would need to at least double.

Every year on February 2nd, World Wetlands Day is commemorated to promote awareness of wetlands. The celebration of World Wetlands Day in 2022 is especially significant, as the UN General Assembly adopted Resolution 75/317 on August 30, 2021, establishing February 2 as World Wetlands Day.
