GWP took an active role in the Habitat III Conference, taking place in Quito, Ecuador, on 17-20 October 2016. Habitat III is the United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development. It focused on the implementation of a New Urban Agenda, building on the Habitat Agenda of Istanbul in 1996. This was the first United Nations global summit after the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.

The newest recruit in the GWP global secretariat is Nicolas Delaunay, Resource Mobilisation and Partnership Manager. Two months into the job, Delaunay shares first impressions of his new role, with an important message to partners: “We need to emphasize the urgency we are in.” This interview is the latest in a year-long series of interviews celebrating GWP’s 20^th Anniversary.

The 2nd Regional Conference of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) labelled project Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector will be held on 5-6 December 2016, in Tunis, Tunisia, in synergy with the UfM’s Pollution Reduction & Prevention Investment (PRPI) Group.

Global Water Partnership Eastern Africa ( GWPEA)needs to develop  a resource mobilization strategy and action plan due to the shift in responsibility for resource mobilization from global to regional and countries. More focus to leverage resource has been shifted to country level while the CWPs do not have capacities. GWP’s role needs to be  very visible to  development partners and show  actual investment on the ground.

In the 6th Africa Water Week, the largest biennial water event in Africa, held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on July 18-22, 2016, GWP-Med shared its experience on mobilising Non Conventional Water Resources (NCWR) as a measure to augment water availability in urban environment.

 

The Singapore International Water Week (SIWW) is the global platform to share and co-create innovative water solutions. The biennial event gathers stakeholders from the global water industry to share best practices, showcase the latest technologies and tap business opportunities. SIWW is part of the strategic programme of the Singapore Government to grow the water industry and develop water technologies.

 

These events was organized by Singapore International Water Week Pte Ltd, a company set up by Singapore's Ministry of the Environment & Water Resources and PUB, Singapore’s national water agency. The 7th Singapore International Water Week held in conjunction with the 5th World Cities Summit and the 3rd CleanEnviro Summit Singapore, from 10 – 14 July 2016 at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Africa Water Week (AWW), the African continents premier biennial event on the water calendar was held in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania from 18-22 July, 2016. The sixth AWW was held under the theme “Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation”. The theme was built on the success and deliberations of the 2014 5^th Africa Water Week on “Placing Water at the Heart of the post 2015 Development Agenda”. 

The 2016 GWP PANASIA Workshop was organized by GWP SEA and hosted by Singapore PUB in Singapore from July 14 to 15, 2016.
