The Global Water Partnership (GWP) Steering Committee announced the appointment of Mr Darío Soto-Abril (pictured) as GWP Executive Secretary, effective March 1, 2021. Soto-Abril joins GWP after serving as Global CEO at Fairtrade International since February 2017.
The GWP-WA Executive Secretariat with the support of Stockholm is working since the beginning of December 2020 to document eleven (11) processes in West Africa including 3 in Benin, 3 in Ghana, 1 in Burkina Faso, 1 in Senegal and 3 at transboundary and cross border level.
The GWP Steering Committee members appointed Ms. Jamilla Sealy as Vice-Chair of the committee with immediate effect. Sealy, who joined the committee in December 2020, also holds the first-ever permanent youth seat.
The project « Integrating flood and drought management and early warning for climate change adaptation in the Volta Basin (VFDM) » financed by the Adaptation Fund held the remaining two training sessions in the series of six in the Volta basin countries.

The Valuation of Ecosystem Services of Lake Ohrid, under the GEF Drin Project, was one of the key inputs informing the development of the Lake Ohrid Watershed Management Plan, now approved by the responsible authorities of Albania and North Macedonia.
The IWRM approach is relatively new in Niger and its implementation requires the information, sensitisation and organisation of the parties concerned at different levels (villages, Communes and sub-basin) for the setting up of appropriate bodies to protect and manage water resources with for the socio-economic development at the sub-basin level.
