CWP Benin and WACDEP-G team held on December 9 and 10, 2021 in Natitingou in Northern Benin, a workshop to encourage local stakeholders in the national part of the Volta Basin to improve practices, attitudes, behaviors, social norms, belief systems and regulations in order to promote gender-transformative investments in water security and climate resilience.

GWP organised an online peer-to-peer learning exchange with leaders from its country platforms on 21 January. The event focused on how to mobilise and engage for stronger Country Water Partnerships (CWPs) and other GWP country platforms to amplify GWP's impact. It was also the launch event in a year-long celebration of GWP's 25th Anniversary.

The Global Water Leadership in a Changing Climate (GWL) is a global initiative to support emerging leadership for improved water, sanitation and hygiene services, and climate resilience.

Since the start of 2021, GWP and the International Water Law Academy (IWLA) of Wuhan University have co-organised a series of online events called "Transboundary Freshwater Security Governance Train" - a 'train' of events stopping around the world at different topics related to the main theme. On 15 June, the initial series concluded with its 6th session on international water law and transboundary groundwater. "We are in front of a puzzle, and this can get very frustrating – there are a lot of pieces, and it takes a lot of time,” said Dr. Francesco Sindico when he described what he called a complex maze of international law applicable to transboundary aquifers.

Water projects are six times more efficient when women are part of the team. Yet there are still massive gaps in the employment of women in the water sector, particularly for jobs that are onsite or require a strong science background. On 22 September, GWP collaborated with Community of Women in Water (CWiW) and World Bank Equal Aqua on a virtual event that discussed how to support women to join and thrive in the water sector.

The Global Water Leadership in a Changing Climate programme (GWL) has held multi-stakeholder consultations in seven countries identifying the most critical barriers to climate-resilient water management. Working groups have now been formed to investigate these barriers and develop responses, beginning with a ‘root cause analysis’. Updates from three countries follow.

The Burkina Faso project team carried out an exchange and experience sharing mission with that of Benin from 16 to 22 February 2020 in Cotonou and Natitingou (Benin). The TFTC project is active in Benin in reforestation, promotion of improved stoves and environmental education.
