In line with the directives of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Water Resources has tasked the IFAS Agency with ensuring comprehensive preparations for hosting the International Forum on Water-Saving Technologies (WST) in the Aral Sea region at a high level.
On July 24, 2025, the first meeting of the working group (Headquarters) was held at the IFAS Agency’s conference hall in a hybrid format, bringing together representatives from various ministries and agencies both in person and online. This meeting marked the beginning of preparations for the Forum, which is scheduled to take place in early April 2026.
Forum Objectives:
The Forum aims to promote and scale up water-saving technologies (WST) as a strategic approach to sustainable water management and climate adaptation in Central Asia, with particular emphasis on the vulnerable Aral Sea region. Key thematic areas will include:
- Interstate cooperation
- Innovation and green economy
- Gender equality
- Youth engagement and scientific collaboration
The Forum is envisioned as a recurring international event, planned to be held biennially. Tashkent has been proposed as the host city, with the optimal dates identified as April 2–3, 2026.
The involvement of CWP-Uzbekistan in preparing for the Forum represents a significant step toward formalizing its collaboration with state institutions. For the first time, the Forum is positioned as a regular international platform, offering opportunities for long-term partnerships between CWP and relevant governmental bodies.
CWP-Uzbekistan is also exploring the initiation of thematic studies and analytical papers to evaluate the effectiveness of WST and their contributions to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the context of the Aral Sea region. Plans include proactive engagement of NGOs and GWPCACENA partners in Forum-related activities, including the organization of preparatory round tables and online discussions.
CWP-Uzbekistan has confirmed its readiness to actively participate in the organizing committee and its subgroups, contributing to both thematic planning and logistical coordination.
