WaterNet Symposium

GWPSA is a key partner involved in the implementation of some WaterNet Activities. These activities are currently being guided by the Phase III WaterNet Strategy (2012-2016), themed “Achieving Sustainability by Increasing Impact”. GWPSA’s main area of involvement has been through the WaterNet/Water Research Fund for Southern Africa (WARFSA)/GWP-SA Symposia, which have been held annually in the Eastern and Southern African regions for the past thirteen years.

To date, 13 Symposia have been organised attracting on average 400 water sector professionals. The WaterNet/WARFSA/GWP-SA Symposium is a leading meeting place for capacity-building, partnership-building and follow-up on the implementation of international and regional processes and programmes in Integrated Water Resources Management.
The 14th symposium will be held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 30 October – 1 November 2013. The University of Dar es Salaam, Department of Water Resources Engineering is the lead host of the 2013 Symposium. The Symposium will provide a platform for water professionals to share advances in research and education related to Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and discuss new opportunities across national borders and developments towards the integrated management of scarce fresh water resources.
WaterNet is a member-based regional network of Southern and Eastern African based university departments and research and training institutes specialising in water. The network aims to build regional institutional and human capacity in Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) through training, education, research and outreach by harnessing the complementary strengths of member institutions in the region and elsewhere.
