“Environment is where climate change makes its first impact. It’s either in the air we breathe, the temperatures we live in, the water we drink, the environment we are surrounded by. So environment is the front and center to climate change response, and that’s why environment of conservation needs to be in the discussion around change in water management,” says James Dalton, Director of the IUCN Global Water Programme.

SADC Begins Consultations for the RSAP V

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) regional water sector programme is driven through the five-year Regional Strategic Action Plans (RSAPs) for the sector, and is currently implementing the 4th version of (RSAP IV). For the water sector, the RSAPs serve both as a coordinating philosophy and a vehicle to deliver on the aspirations of SADC as articulated in the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP), Regional Infrastructure Master Plan (RIDMP) and other regional and sectoral policies and strategies.

Investment Strategy for Cameroon’s Adaptation Plan

In 2015, the Government of Cameroon finalised its national adaptation plan on climate change. GWP was closely involved in the process, providing significant support to ensure the document recognised the importance of water issues, facilitating stakeholder engagement, and ensuring compliance with international guidance on the development of climate adaptation plans. GWP has continued to work with the government to publicise the plan at national and regional events and to seek support from partners for its implementation.

Water Solutions for the Sustainable Development Goals

The United Nations post-2015 Development Agenda was adopted by Member States at the UN General Assembly in September 2015. GWP is committed to support countries in the monitoring and implementation of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, which is dedicated to water. With this aim, GWP, along with global partners, has initiated an SDG Support Programme (SDG6-SP).
