Act on SDG6

World Water Day, on 22 March every year, is about focusing attention on the importance of water. The theme for World Water Day 2018 is ‘Nature for Water’ – exploring nature-based solutions to the water challenges we face in the 21st century.

GWP WA Chair and Executive Secretary meet authorities and partners in Niger

The Chair, Executive Secretary and Communication and Knowledge Management Officer of GWP-WA paid a support visit to the Country Water Partnership (CWP) of Niger from 09 to 14 April 2018. The purpose of the visit was to provide support to the Niger CWP for greater visibility among the authorities and strategic partners in the country in order to accompany it in carrying out its missions. The delegation accompanied by the CWP had meetings with authorities and some strategic partners.

Connecting Water and Energy

The energy and water sectors have different drivers behind decision-making: energy planners are more focused on diversifying sources of producing low-carbon energy, while water managers have to satisfy a variety of water users, including the environment. Cross-sector cooperation and coordination in policies and planning can maximise the supply of one resource while minimising overuse of the other. Briefing notes are two-page summaries on selected topics. They are prepared by GWP’s Global Secretariat and its partners.

The High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on sustainable development in 2018 is held on 9-18 July at the UN Headquarters in New York, USA, under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council. GWP will be represented at the event.

Knowledge Sharing on WWD

On 22 March 2018, GWP China, with GWPO and partners, kicks off #ActOnSDG6 campaign that targets at facilitating stakeholders via our multiple stakeholder partnerships which can speed up the coordinated action when is needed.

Zimbabwe Youth hold forum on mainstreaming Youth in the Water and Sanitation Sector

A youth water forum targeting youth organisations in the water, sanitation and environmental sectors was held at Rainbow Towers in Harare, Zimbabwe on the 17th of March 2015. The youth forum was part of the SADC Water Weeks programme. The SADC Water Weeks are being held in each of the 15 SADC member states spearheaded by the SADC Water Sector under the auspices of the Infrastructure and Services Directorate. The National Water Weeks, running under the theme “From Vision to Action” are supporting SADC to have a platform in interacting with member states on water resources management strategic issues. Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWP SA) is playing a role in providing support in undertaking this initiative.
