The priority actions are located at the level of the fundamental orientation n° 3 which aims at "Strengthening the resilience of the populations of the transboundary sub-basin of the Mekrou and its zone of influence in a sustainable way, by ensuring comfortably the coverage of their basic needs (water, sanitation, food security) by 2030".
GWP-WA together the VBA and WMO started an online training targeting experts in the six Volta Basin countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali and Togo). The distance learning course ''Dissemination, Decision Support and Response to Flood and Drought Early Warning'' takes place over a period of 6 weeks from March 13 to April 21, 2023. The online course is structured around 4 modules.
The workshop for the restitution of the feasibility study for the implementation of the digital oriented resource centre was held on 21 June 2022 in Dakar as part of the Pôle Eau Dakar (PED) Initiative.
A technical workshop to launch community-based flood and drought management initiatives at the Badara pilot site in the rural municipality of Bama, Hauts Bassin region of Burkina Faso was held on 16 November 2021.
Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe, as a partner of the EU Horizon 2020 OPTAIN project, organized its 2023 Summer School for 21 selected MSc and PhD students and graduates, working in the field of water management. The selected students represented the countries of Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Hungary, Iran, Kosovo, Lithuania, Norway, Philippines, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sri Lanka and Turkey.
In the implementation of WACDEP-G, four study missions have been commissioned. Methodological scoping meetings were organized followed by the submission of inception reports by the consultants. The focus areas of the study missions are the following:
"The Green Deal for a Sustainable Future" was the theme of the 2021 digital edition of the European Development Days (EDD21) on 15-16 June, a European Commission event. GWP was represented at a high-level panel on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), and at a discussion on the role of water as a connector in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Both discussions highlighted integration between sectors as key to improving water governance.
Global Water Partnership West Africa held on August 25, 2022 virtually the meeting of its Steering Committee with a good representation of statutory members.
