At the 3rd and final meeting of the Steering Committee for Nexus activities in the Drina River basin, the importance of enhancing cross-sectoral and transboundary coordination in the basin was stressed.

Kenneth Alfaro Alvarado is Project Cooridinator for Water Pollution Prevention at Nicoya Peninsula Waterkeeper in Costa Rica. The non-profit organisation has been a GWP Partner since 2013 - their motivation to join the GWP network was a wish to participate in the processes around Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). To date more than 80 CCA Training Programmes were held with more than 3,450 participants out of which 2,275 were Farmer Leaders and farmers.

Eight African entries have qualified in the semi-finals of the Water ChangeMaker Awards, which were launched by GWP and partners in 2020 to recognise the teams and organisations who shape water decisions that build climate resilience.

The winners of the Water ChangeMaker Awards were revealed at the Water Anchoring Event of the Climate Adaptation Summit on 25 January.

Southern Africa is endowed with a complex network of river systems, which are formed extensively from shared watercourses. 15 of the river basins within the region are shared between one or more countries, 13 of which are shared fully within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region. Cooperation is needed to promote sustainable management, development, and use of these shared water resources. This was one of the recommendations given during the special session on river basin organisations convened by SADC, OKACOM, and GWPSA on 20 October 2022 at the 23rd WaterNet/ WARFSA/ GWPSA Symposium.
