13 October marks the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction. The day is centered around the seven targets of the Sendai Framework, and this year focuses on Target D: reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services. According to the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) floods are the most common natural disaster with the largest impacts on society. August 25-30, 2019, GWP had a strong presence at this year’s Stockholm World Water Week (WWW). A large delegation participated in over 30 sessions, and the GWP Strategy for 2020-2025 was launched at a side event. Youth Professionals’ booth – was jointly hosted by GWP and Asian Development Bank (ADB), sharing youth engagement stories and operation model by GWP China, ASEAN, GWPO, ADB youth and water teams, Central Asia Youth for Water Network and Water Youth Network.
This year's topic of the Danube Water Conference, held on 20-21 May 2019 was “Achieving resilience in water and wastewater utilities in the Danube region”.
GWP WA is coordinating the reporting on the SDG 6.5.1 indicator by UNEP through the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme with GWP support in the region. Monitoring and reporting on SDG indicator 6.5.1 in countries are based on a self-assessment survey.
