World Toilet Day: ChangeMakers Bring Hope by Working Towards Sustainable Sanitation

Climate change is getting worse. Floods, droughts and rising sea levels are threatening sanitation systems – from toilets to septic tanks to treatment plants. It is against this backdrop that World Toilet Day is celebrated on 19 November, raising awareness of the 4.2 billion people living without access to safely managed sanitation. GWP celebrates the day by showcasing five Water ChangeMaker stories, providing hope that change is possible.

SWA Climate Webinar Series 2021

Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) together with GWP, UNICEF and WaterAid are co-convening a 3-part webinar series to strengthen partners’ knowledge of and capacity to integrate water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and climate policies, plans, action, and financing. The events are scheduled for 13, 20 and 29 April. Recordings of the events are available after the event.

VFDM organize national workshops on Gender mainstreaming

The Volta Flood and Doright Management (VFDM) project held two national training workshops on Gender mainstreaming in End-to-End Early Warning System for flood forecasting and integrated flood risk management in the volta basin on 11 to 14 October 2021 in Wa and from 18 to 21 October 2021 in Tamale, Northern Ghana.

“Biggest Gender Challenge is Lack of Access” – Introducing GWP’s New Gender Expert

Liza Debevec joined the global GWP secretariat in May 2020 as Senior Gender & Water Specialist. This is the first time GWP has a full-time person dedicated to gender, and Liza’s task will be to operationalize the gender dimensions of GWP's 2020-2025 Strategy, and more specifically the GWP Gender Strategy and Gender Action Piece. In this Q&A interview, Liza shares thoughts on her new role: “The biggest gender and social inclusion challenge in every sector, not just in water resources management, is that of access, or the lack of access to relevant resources that women and vulnerable communities face.”

Water and environment media competition winners known

In the framework of the 25th anniversary of GWP Network, GWP-WA organized its 6th media awards around the theme “"Water Security and Climate Resilience in West Africa: Acting for the Well-Being of the Populations". The winners were made known in a communiqué released on September 25.
