August 31, 2020 – Enhancing water security between nations has become an imperative with water use in river basins surpassing sustainable limits and roughly 60% of the world’s freshwater resources crossing national borders. As a response, a new Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) aims to deliver the skills and knowledge for water cooperation. GEF IW:LEARN has been driving the development of the MOOC, coordinated and produced by Global Water Partnership (GWP), and with contributions from leading organisations.
The World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is a United Nations observance celebrated each year on 17 June. Its purpose is to raise awareness around desertification and drought, highlighting methods on how to prevent these from occurring. The 2021 edition focuses on turning degraded land into healthy land - the event key words are restoration, land and recovery.

March 22, 2022, UN World Water Development Report 2022 “Groundwater - making the invisible visible” was launched at the opening ceremony of the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar, Senegal. GWP China facilitated the launching of the Executive Summary of the Report in Chinese.
An online Workshop on “Gender Equality (GE) for Sustainable Development in Nexus sectors in Drin Riparians” took place on 12 October 2021 with the participation of around 55 representatives from different gender related institutions and nexus related sectors, gender focal points, civil society, academia, women empowerment activists and experts from Albania, Kosovo* and North Macedonia. Its overall purpose was to bring these actors together to discuss challenges and opportunities for promoting gender equality as a driver for sustainable development in Drin Riparians.
About eighty representatives of youth and civil society organizations working in the water and climate sector in Congo, Cameroon, Chad, and the Central African Republic have received training on how the GWP IWRM toolbox can improve their involvement in Integrated Water Resources Management processes across the region.
In accordance with the Head of State’s instructions during his September 12th, 2012 visit to the flood victims in the North and Far North regions of Cameroon to "strengthen metrological information at all levels and on a regular basis" and as part of the Water, Climate, Environment - Gender (WACDEP-G) program, GWP-Cameroon supported the National Meteorological Department of the Ministry of Transport (MINT) in improving the mechanisms for collecting and disseminating agrometeorological information during a workshop held in Yaoundé on November 27th, 2020 .
