The second round of reporting on SDG indicator 6.5.1 took place in 2020, upon the request of UNEP, as the custodian agency for SDG indicator 6.5.1, and in coordination with other SDG 6 indicators.

The Young Caribbean Water Entrepreneurs Shark Tank is an initiative of the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) and was first launched in 2019. The competition provides a unique opportunity for young persons from the Caribbean between the ages of 18 to 34 years, to pitch innovative and impactful water project ideas.

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has worked on water for food issues for over four decades, and therefore the decision to join the Water ChangeMaker Awards as a Knowledge Partner was a happy one, says Claudia Ringler, Deputy Division Director of IFPRI's Environment and Production Technology Division. In July 2020, a webinar series will be held on “Coordinating, Implementing, and Financing National Climate and Water Policy Frameworks”. It has been developed by Cap-Net, UNDP, Global Water Partnership, AGWA, SIWI, and the Water Governance Facility. The webinars will highlight and contribute to strengthening climate and water linkages in national frameworks such as NDCs, NAPs, and various investment mechanisms.

The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) will be offering two (2) capacity building courses targeted at Caribbean children to commemorate World Toilet Day 2021.

The Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security has entered its second year, and coinciding with this, the interactive series of sessions that explore related topics resumed on 21 September. Over 100 participants joined the event on the topic of international water law and dispute settlement. The speaker presentations highlighted the complex and long-running nature of international water disputes.

In 2020, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) began supporting the Government of the Dominican Republic (DR) to develop estimates of increased risk of flooding and landslides due to rainfall projections under climate change scenarios. This technical study was completed in the last quarter of 2020. It is one of a series of activities and outputs by GWP-C to inform the preparation of the country’s submission for the second round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and is part of the Climate Action Enhancement Package (CAEP) from the NDC Partnership.
