The Volta Basin Authority (VBA) organized the first and second training workshops on ''Ecosystem planning and management for climate change adaptation in the Volta Basin'' from 20 to 24 May 2019 in Bamako, Mali and on 27 to 31 May 2019 in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
Asia Pacific Water Forum (APWF), Asian Development Bank (ADB), and Japan Water Forum will hold sessions during the Stockholm World Water Week 2019 (SWWW 2019) between 27-29 August 2019.
2017 marks the 2nd year that a dedicated MENA Regional Focus is part of the Stockholm World Water Weeks’ programme, alongside the regional days for Africa, Asia and Latin America. Yekini Wallen-Bryan is the winner of the first-ever Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) Young Caribbean Water Entrepreneurs Shark Tank Competition. The 25-year-old Jamaican national was among seven (7) finalists in the regional competition and delivered the winning pitch, securing 4,000 Euros.
Jointly organised by the Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe (GWP CEE) and the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River (ICPDR), this competition encourages children to take a closer look at their local river, and to reflect on what the environment means to them.
Represented by its Regional Coordinator, Mr. Hycinth BANSEKA, the GWP-CAf Secretariat actively participated in various sessions, particularly those on "The Contextual Analysis of Sanitation in Gabon: Opportunities and Perspectives (in relation to the SDGs)" organized by the Ministry of Water and Energy of Gabon and "Water security, infrastructure, investment and innovation".
Africa's population is projected to reach 1.6 billion by 2030, which translates into a need to produce at least 50% more food; and at least a tenfold increase in water needs for energy production to support socio-economic development. These challenges and the resultant increase in water demand are further aggravated by rapid urbanization and industrialisation. This requires huge investments in water to satisfy the social and economic demands among other things.
