In 2021, GWP and Wuhan International Water Law Academy are co-organising an interactive online series called the "Transboundary freshwater security governance train". The series of online engagements sessions will be conducted in an approach of a ‘train’ stopping at various locations in the world, with focus on topics related to transboundary freshwater security from different parts of the world. At each of the stops, a different topic from the Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) for Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security will be explored. The first session is on transboundary water agreements, and it takes place on 19 January, stopping in Africa, Europe and Asia.
All behavioral change needs motivation from the inside – this is true both for people and organisations – and change is impossible until old belief systems and stereotypes die away, says GWP Senior Gender & Social Inclusion Specialist Liza Debevec. World Wetlands Day is celebrated on 2 February every year to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and our planet. The 2021 theme shines a spotlight on wetlands as a source of freshwater and encourages actions to restore them and stop their loss.
An online Workshop on “Gender Equality (GE) for Sustainable Development in Nexus sectors in Drin Riparians” took place on 12 October 2021 with the participation of around 55 representatives from different gender related institutions and nexus related sectors, gender focal points, civil society, academia, women empowerment activists and experts from Albania, Kosovo* and North Macedonia. Its overall purpose was to bring these actors together to discuss challenges and opportunities for promoting gender equality as a driver for sustainable development in Drin Riparians.
