World Humanitarian Day is held every year on 19 August to pay tribute to aid workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service, and to rally support for people affected by crises around the world.
On 18 May, the event series “Transboundary freshwater security governance train” continued with a session on “International Water Law and Infrastructure.” Over 100 participants took part in the event, which was co-organised by GWP and the International Water Law Academy (IWLA) of Wuhan University. The question at the heart of the discussion was: what are the rules of international law that govern transboundary infrastructure development?
DriDanube project partners developed a Danube Drought Strategy which aims to build the capacity of the Danube region to overcome common deficiencies in coping with drought, and thus help switch from reactive to proactive drought management approach.
The 15th Steering Committee meeting of the Regional Water Partnership for Central Africa (GWP-CAf) held from 3rd -4th November 2021 followed by the 7th General Assembly on November 5th, 2021, in Douala.
The 14th UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP14) takes place 2-13 September at the India Expo Center and Mart, in New Delhi, India. GWP is represented and play an active role during the second week of the event.
GWP Eastern Africa and four riparian countries – Djibouti, Kenya, Sudan, and Uganda – have received funding from the Adaptation Fund through the Sahara and Sahel Observatory (OSS) to implement the project on “Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD Region” - the DRESS-EA project. A formal launch of the project takes place online on 6 October.
Under the framework of the implementation of the project entitled « Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin » (VFDM), WMO, VBA and GWP-WA have planned to organize a series of eight (8) national training workshops in the six (06) countries of the Volta Basin on the theme "Gender Mainstreaming in the End-to-End Early Warning System for Flood Forecasting and Integrated Flood Risk Management".
Within the framework of the AIP WACDEP-G program, GWP-CAf in collaboration with the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Energy (DGRE) STP and GWP Sao Tome and Principe (PNASTP) organised a virtual/in-person gender training for the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector managers in Sao Tome and Principe from April 6th to 8th 2021.
