At the invitation of the Minister of the Environment, the Executive Secretary represented the Chair of CWP Guinea at the meeting, which was held on 3 September 2019 in Conakry.
On June 2, 2020, close to World Environment Day, was the launch of the Lishui River Basin Development Project held in Lishui Town, Foshan City, Guangdong Province. Vice chair of GWP China, Wang Hao, delivered a speech and introduced a new water management concept.

This month, Howard Bamsey began his duties as the new Chair of GWP. He did so with a visit to the global secretariat in Stockholm, Sweden, where he met staff and got briefed on current issues around the network. The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) convenes the 2020 edition of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) from Tuesday 7 July to Thursday 16 July. The event will mainly be in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with some limited events held for New York-based participants.

In one of its key activities at COP25, GWP announced a new collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and other partners, to create plausible water solutions for a climate-resilient future in 2030 and beyond. The initiative is called "Water Resilience Frontiers: Pathways for transformational Climate Resilient Water Security in 2030 and Beyond".
