In order to contribute to the reflections which should lead to the adoption of texts instituting the establishment and composition of Local Water Committees (LWCs):
Hanoi, 22 March 2019 -- In the Southeast Asia region, prone to many disasters such as cyclones, floods and droughts, many efforts are being made to build capacity, influence policies and develop strategies to better equip member states to prevent and address disaster. Given the need and importance of paying attention to water-related disasters, the High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP), drafted ‘principles on investment and financing for water related disaster risk reduction’, which was launched during the 8th World Water Forum in Brazil. Building on a cooperation between the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the HELP and Japanese government, a session on DRR is organized with the main objective to consult on investment and financing for water related-disaster risk reduction principles. This consultation was organized as part of Viet Nam wAter Cooperation Initiative (VACI) 2019 as this initiative is closely related to the VACI’s objectives, which was designed to share and co-create innovative water solution with emphasis on Vietnam and tropical water issues. The Strengthening Drought Resilience for Smallholder Farmers and Pastoralists in the IGAD Region (DRESS-EA) project was launched online on 6 October 2020.
In March 2021, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) will hold a Caribbean Science Symposium on Water; the first of its kind for the region. Its main theme will be “Building Resilience in the Regional Water Sector to Address Climatological and Hydrological Risks and Threats.”
August 25-30, 2019, GWP had a strong presence at this year’s Stockholm World Water Week (WWW). A large delegation participated in over 30 sessions, and the GWP Strategy for 2020-2025 was launched at a side event. Youth Professionals’ booth – was jointly hosted by GWP and Asian Development Bank (ADB), sharing youth engagement stories and operation model by GWP China, ASEAN, GWPO, ADB youth and water teams, Central Asia Youth for Water Network and Water Youth Network.
Through the Directorate of Water in Sao Tome and Principe, the Sao Tome and Principe Country Water Partnership (GWP STP) is supporting the implementation of a European Union (EU) funded reform program for the water sector in Sao Tome and Principe through several community outreach activities with women at the forefront.
The first “International Workshop on Water and Agriculture in the Danube River Basin“ will take place from 6th to 7th November 2019 in Budapest, Hungary. The workshop is co-organised by the ICPDR, the Hungarian Ministry of Interior, the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture and the Danube Strategy Priority Area 4 and hosted by the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture.
