GWP/WA in collaboration with its partners IUCN, VBA, Eau Vive Internationale and IRC has started coaching young professionals through its regional programme for the employability of young people in jobs related to water security and climate resilience, which is implemented through the Integrated Drought Management Project in West Africa (IDMP-WA), #TonFuturTonClimat initiative, the Nexus & Food and Nutritional Security Programme and the Water Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP).

The annual GWP Network Meeting will be held on 11 October at 13.00 Central European Time (CET). It is a virtual meeting, to be broadcast on the GWP website www.gwp.org – with a special guest message from UN Deputy Secretary General (DSG) Jan Eliasson. GWP is presenting itself on a fresh look on the occasion of World Water Day, transforming from old to newfangled, with the big makeover lies in new search functions for knowledge, news, events, and partners, as well as more highlighting results.

On the occasion of its 15th Anniversary and the launching of the SDG Water Preparedness Facility Program in Hungary, GWP Hungary invited partners, donors, collaborators and supporters to an Anniversary meeting, which was held on the 20th of November 2017 in Budapest.

“Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality” is the global theme for International Women’s Day 2017. It asks governments to make national commitments to address the challenges that are holding women and girls back from reaching their full potential.

On May 10-11 over 80 experts and stakeholders gathered in Malta from across the Mediterranean and beyond to discuss water challenges faced in the region and suggest Non Conventional Water Resources (NCWR) solutions for a water-secure future, including employment opportunities.

To contribute to water security in the communities of Valle de Jiboa, El Salvador, where communities face water scarcity, the Association of Municipalities (MIJIBOA) and the Women's Network of Valle del Jiboa, in partnership with the National Foundation for Development (FUNDE), GWP Central America and Mexichem, installed 7 rainwater harvesting (RWH) systems between February to September 2017. The initiative had a gender focus, as the women of the area were an active part of the implementation of the project.

The regional center AGRHYMET together with NBA, JRC and GWP-WA organized the final workshop for the synthesis of scientific activities of the Mekrou Project. The event took place in Niamey, Niger from 7 to 8 December 2017.

GWP's action network provides knowledge and builds capacity to improve water management at all levels: global, regional, national and local. GWP does not operate alone. Its networking approach provides a mechanism for coordinated action and adds value to the work of many other key development partners.

In the context of setting the scene for the development of the new GWP strategy, the Regional Days 2018 in Budapest included a session exploring GWP’s current position within the different regions and themes, and how the network adds value. Each region and thematic lead were asked to develop a poster describing their work and application in practice. The below posters are internal GWP working documents.
