Just one year after the devastating floods of 2023 caused by storm Daniel, a new stormwater management project implemented by Global Water Partnership – Mediterranean, in close collaboration with the Municipality of Trikala, with funding from the The Coca-Cola Foundation was delivered to the city.

GWP-Med is leading the “Pathways to Impact” Work Package in the Horizon 2020 REXUS project, coordinating communication and dissemination activities. The 1st plenary meeting, which took place on 21 and 27 October 2021, brought together more than 60 participants from over 20 institutions, sharing advances on various pieces of the REXUS ‘jigsaw puzzle’ which is coming together to create new blueprint for applying the Water-Energy-Food-Climate Nexus.

Facilitated by the Central African Republic Country Water Partnership (CWP-CAR) , Central African Republic is the first country in the region to hold a stakeholder consultation workshop to validate the national monitoring report on indicator 6.5.1 of the Sustainable Development Goals. The workshop was organized by the Ministry of Energy and Water resources Development and GWP-CAR on July 1st,2020 in Bangui.

GWP El Salvador, the National Development Foundation (FUNDE), the Interinstitutional Network for Territorial Development, Let’s Do It El Salvador and 22 civil society organisations have formed the Trinational Network for the Rescue of the Lempa River. #RescatemosElLempa is a campaign to raise awareness about the importance of one of the main rivers in Central America.

2021 marks 25 years since Global Water Partnership (GWP) was founded with a mission to foster Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and – ultimately – to achieve a water secure world. Throughout 2021, celebrations will take place in the worldwide network of 3,000 Partners, highlighting past successes and setting new goals for future achievements.

In the framework of the implementation of the activities of the integrity action plans in the Communes, a workshop to strengthen the capacities of communal actors was organized and brought together about forty actors. Participants include water, hygiene and sanitation managers, members of the Drinking Water Consumers' Associations (ACEP), those of the Citizen Participation Unit (CPC), the Heads of Development and Planning Services (C/SDLP), the Heads of Communication Services (C/com) and the Heads of Administration and Finance.

The Final AfriAlliance Conference will be held online from 28-30 October, and is hosted by the 21st WaterNet Symposium.

GWP is coordinating the work behind a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on the topic of “Governance for Transboundary Freshwater Security.” The MOOC, which is currently under development with Partners, is set to launch in 2020. While it is primarily targeted at practitioners and stakeholders, it is also open for all who are interested in these issues. You can already now sign up for the course.

The IGAD Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC) in collaboration with the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) and partners are organising the 54th Greater Horn of Africa Climate Outlook Forum (GHACOF 54) in Mombasa, Kenya, on 27-29 January.
