GWP China Water and Climate Programme aims to integrate water security and climate resilience in development planning processes, build climate resilience and support provinces to adapt to a new climate regime through increased investments in water security.
GWPEA has a cumulative membership of over 300 registered partners from the 9 Country Water Partnerships.
Most of these partners' scope of work is hinged against Water Security and Climate Change management although organizations dealing in other sectors which are closely related to climate change can also apply.
The “Regional Workshop on South-South Cooperation in Flood Management” was jointly organized by GWP China and GWPO, from December 14 to 16, 2015, in Guangdong, China.
On December 24 and 25, 2016, at the invitation of Henan Water Conservancy Investment Group Co. Ltd, Prof Hao Wang, Standing Vice Chair of GWP China and Prof Yunzhong Jiang, GWP China Secretary General visited Pingyu County and Zhengzhou City to conduct evaluation on local integrated water and environment management projects.
On December 22, 2016, Mr. Wei Shanzhong, the Commissioner of the Yangtze River Commission, Mr. Jia Hujun, Vice Commissioner, Mr. Jin Xingping, Chief Engineer and other leaders of the Commission paid a visit to Mdm. Cai Qihua, Chair of GWP China.
According to the WACDEP 2015 Plan of GWP China Region, it was designed under the “Work Package 3: No/low regret investments in regional and national development”, GWP China worked with GWP China Shaanxi Provincial WP, the Research Office of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Congress and Shaanxi Provincial Water Resources Department to implement the water investment programme in Shaanxi Province from 2014. In 2015, with the support of Xi’an Jiaotong University, GWP China reviewed the contemporary water investment status of Shaanxi Province and developed the assessment.
“Action on water is an absolute and ethical imperative…Acting now is a matter of human dignity, justice, and survival. Waiting to act is no longer an option.” This was one of the strong messages of the Budapest Water Summit 2016, which took place 28-30 November in Budapest, Hungary. GWP global and GWP Central and Eastern Europe joined forces to represent the network at the event.
