The Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) works to support Caribbean countries in the sustainable development and management of their water resources. Since being established in 2004, the regional organisation has been hosted by its long-standing Partner, the National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST), in Trinidad.
Asia and the Pacific has made impressive progress towards achieving several sustainable development goals including poverty alleviation, education and economic growth. At the same time, the region needs to accelerate concerted efforts across all sectors to achieve the SDGs by 2030. In the face of transboundary challenges such as climate change and natural disasters, energy security and connectivity, ecosystem degradation on land and in our oceans, and promoting sustainable equitable trade, regional cooperation can support and complement the effectiveness of national mechanisms and be a link between global goals and country level commitments.
Southern Africa Development Committee (SADC) and River Basin Organisations (RBO) in the region must create an enabling policy environment that supports harmonised approaches and implementation of joint water quality programmes.
The Country Water Partnership (CWP) of Niger in partnership with the Ministry of Environment, urban sanitation and sustainable development through the directorate of wildlife, hunting and protected areas is building a water reservoir for the wildlife of the W Park. The stock of 200 hundred thousand hectares has 30 water reservoirs of which only four are permanent i.e. they don’t totally dry up during the long dry hot season.
Capacity building – at the individual, institutional, and societal levels – is an important means to further IWRM principles and boost the overall quality of water governance structures.
The Water Integrity Network (WIN) organized a one-day regional meeting in the premises of GWP WA on 22 February. It has been some ten years since WIN started its activities in West Africa in collaboration with GWP-WA, VBA, ECOWAS/WRCC and countries among others.
