Managing the world’s water resources is foundational to development. If you want to feed the world—and contribute to poverty reduction, human health, and economic prosperity—pay attention to water.

Africa in particular its sub Saharan part, is one of the most affected areas in the world regarding food insecurity (Africa 2014 report on hunger, IFPRI). The agricultural sector which food security and poverty reduction depends very much on in Africa is likely to be affected by climate change if no action is taken.  It is against that background that The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa held national consultations on water and food in Malawi and Lesotho on the 21^st of April 2016.

On 28 May 2016 in Budapest, Hungary was held national final of the 2016 Stockholm Junior Water Prize (SJWP) in Hungary. 

2016 marks 20 years since Global Water Partnership began its commitment to help governments take a cross-sectoral approach to water resources management.

The programme of ecological security of ten-kilometre river of Fujian Province was initiated by Fujian Water Resources Department and GWP China Fujian.

The Executive Secretary of GWP, Rudolph Cleveringa, says that GWP as a network needs to change: “We can’t use the same agenda as we did 20 years ago”. Approaching World Water Day 2016, Cleveringa takes a moment to reflect on GWP’s 20 years in the water world and talks about his vision on how to make the network fit for the future – local inclusion and diversity are words he uses to make his point.

A validation to the draft 4^th Regional Work programme; the Regional Strategic Action Plan (RSAP IV) was made at the 7^th SADC Multi-Stakeholder Water Dialogue held in Windhoek, Namibia from the 29^th to the 30the September, 2015. Subsequently, the Water Resources Technical Committee (WRTC) approved the plan at its meeting after the dialogue.
