The COVID-19 outbreak has changed nearly every aspect of the lives of the world’s citizens. And every organisation’s way of doing business, including GWP’s, has been upended. Cap-Net (Caribbean WaterNet) in collaboration with various Partners, will hold two (2) Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) 3-day training workshops in The Bahamas this month.
Hanoi, 22 March 2019 -- In the Southeast Asia region, prone to many disasters such as cyclones, floods and droughts, many efforts are being made to build capacity, influence policies and develop strategies to better equip member states to prevent and address disaster. Given the need and importance of paying attention to water-related disasters, the High-level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP), drafted ‘principles on investment and financing for water related disaster risk reduction’, which was launched during the 8th World Water Forum in Brazil. Building on a cooperation between the Global Water Partnership (GWP), the HELP and Japanese government, a session on DRR is organized with the main objective to consult on investment and financing for water related-disaster risk reduction principles. This consultation was organized as part of Viet Nam wAter Cooperation Initiative (VACI) 2019 as this initiative is closely related to the VACI’s objectives, which was designed to share and co-create innovative water solution with emphasis on Vietnam and tropical water issues. GWP South Asia attended a national key water sector stakeholder discussion held on 8 August 2019 in Colombo organised by the Programme Management Unit of the Mahaweli Water Security Investment Programme (MWSIP) under its consultancy package “Strengthening of Integrated Water Resources Management (SIWRM)” in Sri Lanka.
Under the SDG 6 IWRM Support Programme, GWP supports governments and other stakeholders to evaluate, diagnose and improve water governance policies. The aim is to accelerate implementation of SDG 6 and other water-related goals. Now the turn has come to Argentina, where a second phase underlines “identification of challenges and proposal of potential solutions”.

CWP Benin is supporting two (2) municipalities of the Pendjari and Mekrou sub-basins in the establishment of Local Water Committees (LWCs) as part of the implementation of the component of component B of the second phase of the Water, Hygiene and Sanitation Programme (ProSEHA2) on the "Promotion of IWRM in the sub-basins of the Mekrou and Pendjari".
With the start of the activities of the Project "Integrating Flood and Drought Management and Early Warning for Climate Change Adaptation in the Volta Basin", a project implementation team is assessing the capacities and needs of national structures for flood and drought forecasting and warning.
