Final communiqué of the regional kick-off workshop of the" Programme on Advancing Dialogue and Investment for Food Security – in Water - Energy – Food - Ecosystems Nexus in West Africa” from 11 to 13 December in Bamako, Mali.

The IDMP WA carried out a Training of trainers in April 2016 which gathered 20 participants including 5 women from Mali, Burkina and Niger and some regional institutions in West Africa. It was meant to increase the participants’ knowledge on integrated risks management related to drought/ Climate change. After 8 months, a first assessment carried out via a survey through emails has revealed positive impacts for most participants.

The Project Officer took part on May 6 and 11 respectively in Burkina and Niger to follow up meetings to discuss the standard template for the drafting of the consultants reports on the identification of national development priorities in the Mékrou basin.

The studies on "Identification of national development priorities on the Mékrou basin in Benin, Burkina Faso and Niger were validated after comments made by the consultant were discussed and taken into account by national consultants.

 

A workshop of the African collectives of the Water and Sanitation Civil Society took place in Cotonou from 24th to 26th January 2017. It brought together eight (8) countries from West and Central Africa, namely: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal and Togo.

Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) with support from the European Union recently held an inception workshop on NEXUS at the Vaal, South Africa to help address Southern Africa’s complex and interdependent challenges.

The implementation process of national and regional platforms on the Integrated Management of Drought is ongoing. Thus the regional core group as well as the national core group of Niger held their first meeting of 2016 respectively on Wednesday, June 15 in Ouagadougou and Wednesday 22 June in Niamey.

On December 13 to 16, 2016, 'the Annual Workshop for International Cooperation Officers' and 'the Working Meeting on International Cooperation' were organized by the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) of China in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

The Regional Center AGRHYMET and the Joint Research Center (JRC) of the European Union brought together experts and research structures at the national level involved in the implementation of the Mékrou Project for a training workshop on hydrological modelling and the L-Moments methodology. "The aim of this workshop is to strengthen the capacities of the actors of the technical management of the Mékrou basin on tools that have been developed in the framework of the Project in order to allow the experts to master these tools and also to perpetuate all the assets of the project in terms of developing tools for replication in other basins. This makes it a very important workshop to ensure the sustainability of tools in the region", according to Dr. Abdou Ali, the Regional Coordinator of the training at AGRHYMET.
