Network with Governments

On December 13 to 16, 2016, 'the Annual Workshop for International Cooperation Officers' and 'the Working Meeting on International Cooperation' were organized by the Department of International Cooperation, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Water Resources (MWR) of China in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province.

Prof Yunzhong Jiang, GWP China Secretary General and Ms Yilin Ma, the Communications Officer attended the two events respectively on behalf of the GWP China.

It conveyed meeting spirit at the opening and the assembly learnt keynote speech of Minister Lei Chen, Ministry of Water Resources, at the opening of the workshop expressing that water international activities have set their sights on China's diplomatic interests to promote an overall progress of water sector reforming; to collaborate domestic and overseas resources and markets; to facilitate bilateral cooperation; to organize a set of large international water events; to participate into developing international water management plans; to work precisely on foreign negotiations and international flood forecasting. They all protect national security and water resources rights. Those achievements are embodied wisdom and efforts of all who have contributed to international water cooperation. Minister Chen also stressed that the current and future period is critical to accelerate the reform of water resources as well as to build a moderately well-off society in all aspects. The development of international water cooperation should implement national diplomatic policy with the concept of innovation, coordination, green, opening and sharing. All cooperation and exchanges must rely on win-win cooperation between governments at all levels; follow the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness in conducting "the Belt and Road" for water diplomacy and transboundary rivers; implement water goals under the SDGs as well as raise China's voice and influence of water on global stage.

Prof. Jiang summarized key outcomes of GWP China in international cooperation in 2016. Other leaders of water related organizations at provincial, river basin and municipal levels also attended the meeting. At the meeting, the provincial/river basin/municipal water resources departments were also encouraged to develop contacts and cooperation with GWP China.
