The Country Water Partnership (CWP) of Senegal is willing to give the national platform a new dynamism. The CWP Chair, Dr. Adrien COLY with his team organized on 18 November 2020 in Dakar one day workshop for the mobilization of the Steering Committee and the Scientific Committee.
GWP Cameroon and its partners have trained women leaders in the Meri District, Northern Cameroon on community sensitization on fluorosis and its health impacts. The aim was to help change mentalities and break stereotypes related to dental fluorosis. An evaluation shows that the training and the activities of the women leaders has had a positive impact on the community's perception of the disease. The approach also created momentum for awareness activities in the entire Mayo Tsanaga River Basin.
Budapest Water Summit 2019 took place on 15-17 October, and GWP took the opportunity to ask youth about their experience with GWP. Joanna O’Keefe from Poland said that GWP introduced her to a completely new world: “I knew scientific conferences, but now I also get involved with policy making events and political events.”
A CWP Burkina and GWP-WA team including the regional Project Officer, a Young Professional and the Executive Secretary of the CWP-BF, visited Koankin in the rural commune of Saponé to monitor and observe the effective start of composting activities as part of the implementation of the TFTC project in Burkina Faso.
A climate resilient, WASH and Climate financing training was held from 16-18 July in Kathmandu, Nepal convened by UNICEF Regional Office for South Asia (ROSA). It is a collaboration between UNICEF ROSA, UNICEF Headquarters (Water and Climate Team), and the Global Water Partnership (GWP).
GWP Steering Committee Member and CEO of Thirst Mina Guli is going to run 100 marathons in 100 days – her single goal is to raise awareness around the global water crisis, and show what 100% commitment to water means. Mina’s challenge starts on 4 November with the New York Marathon. She will then run across Europe, China, Australia, India, the Middle East, Africa and South America, before finishing her 100-day run in the United States. GWP will help Mina to share water stories along her route.
In July, a 3-part webinar series was held on “Coordinating, Implementing, and Financing National Climate and Water Policy Frameworks”. The series was developed by GWP and Cap-Net, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Alliance for Global Water Adaptation (AGWA), Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), and the Water Governance Facility. The sessions highlighted climate and water linkages in national frameworks such as the National Determined Contributions (NDCs), the National Adaptation Plans (NAPs), and various investment mechanisms.
