Water Day is held on 12 November as part of the virtual Race-to-Zero November Dialogues. The event takes place under the banner “Vision of a zero-carbon, resilient future through Water”.
Young Water Professionals from 11 countries of Central and Eastern Europe gathered at COP24 to advocate for youth engagement in decision-making processes.
Sida, Sweden’s International Development Cooperation Agency, and one of GWP’s founding Partners, held its annual development forum on 14 October. This year, the event highlighted gender and the inequalities that still exist around the topic. This aligns with GWP’s Gender Strategy.
GWP promotes youth inclusion in water resources management. One of those ways is through a robust internship programme. Civil Engineer Axel Martinez, 26, from Nicaragua, spent five months with GWP Central America as a Young Professional Development Initiative Intern under GWP’s Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP). He says the experience has helped him to grow professionally.
On 26 April 2018, a successful meeting was held in Nouakchott in Mauritania between GWP-Med, the National Center for Water Resources in Mauritania (CNRE) and the Regional Centre of Agro-Hydro-Meteorology (AGRHYMET) leading to collaboration agreement on concrete steps to support CNRE on water resources monitoring and evaluation as well as hydro-climate services delivery.
The Global Water Partnership Mediterranean is seeking to hire an external Consultant in the framework of the “Making Water Cooperation Happen in the Mediterranean’ project, for the activity: “Development & Draft selected sections of the ‘Nexus Assessment Report’ related to modernizing and increasing the value and viability of agriculture”
Kholoud Al-Ajarma is a Programme Manager for Lajee Center in Palestine, a Winner of the Water Heroes Contest, and collaborator to GWP Mediterranean. “My interest in water started from a human rights perspective. I believed that water is not only a science concern, but to have a better future in water management, all segments of society should collaborate to ensure water access to everyone and to raise awareness about water management and consumption among local communities,” she says. Today, her main motivation in is to ensure environmental justice for everyone. She shares her story in celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD2020).
