In Burkina a national workshop was organized in February to validate the National Adaptation Plan to Climate Change (NAP). This workshop brought together a hundred participants to review the final version of the NAP document that integrated the amendments made by the workshop of April 1, 2014 including those on water security, water has been integrated as a cross cutting sector.
Responding to the dramatic increase in extreme weather events and mega disasters is one of the great challenges of the Limpopo River Basin. Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) is a top priority for the basin as it seeks to hold back the tide of rising economic and human losses through flood and droughts. To reduce risks from such disasters, GWPSA has over the past 2 years been involved in the development of a disaster risk reduction action plan for the Limpopo Basin. This Plan of Action presents a strategy for integrating disaster risk reduction into the Limpopo transboundary level operations. As part of the process to developing the plan, GWPSA held a workshop on the 5th of April, 2016, to validate the draft DRR action plan of the Limpopo Basin.
On May 4th, 2015, the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C) announced the winners of its Media Awards on Water 2015 – Video Competition.
The Burkina Faso CWP has launched a call for applications for the recruitment of a consultant to carry out the study on the "Analysis of the current use of water resources leading to the definition of the situation reference to the use of water on the portion of the territory of Burkina Faso located in the Mekrou basin and the studies on existing IWRM plans, policies and green growth strategies and managing situations of drought and flood, energy policies and poverty reduction strategies in Burkina Faso" and the validation workshop of results by all actors of Burkina Faso. The same is done by CWP Benin and CWP Niger.
The UN-Water annual Zaragoza Conference serves as preparation for the annual World Water Day. GWP representatives participated in several of the sessions.
A workshop was held in Niamey on May 29, 2015 to validate the study on 'Analysis of the results of national consultations and elaboration of the preliminary proposal of the agreement on the establishment of the framework and coordinating mechanism for political dialogue in the Mekrou basin planning process ''.
This workshop brought together about 40 people who validated the document by highlighting the context of Niger.
The 16th WaterNet/WARFSA/GWP-SA symposium, under the theme “Integrated Water Resources Management and Infrastructure Planning for Water Security in Southern Africa”, will be held at Le Meridien lle Maurice Hotel, Mauritius from 28 - 30 October 2015.
