GWP-WA receives visit from new WSA ES

Hobah Pierre ROGOTO, the new Executive Secretary of the Pan African Agency Water and Sanitation (WSA) together with three of his staff were received on 7 May 2018 by the regional secretariat of GWP-WA. The visitors explained that this was a courtesy visit to one of their main partners after the crisis that WSA has undergone for the last years.

Global Water Partnership Southern Africa in May organized and facilitated the National workshop on Integrating Agriculture in National Adaptation Plans (NAP-Ag) in Zambia to raise awareness about climate challenges and response strategies of the country and understanding the process of planning NAP both overall and in the agriculture sector.

M. Bila Compaoré nicknamed Moussa is the chief of the Kogoloweogo association set up since the early 80’s during the revolution period for the reforestation through tree planting in Komki Ipala, 45 km in the west of Ouagadougou. The association involves most of the population of the village of Komki Ipala but is ruled by a group of 21 persons including four women. He is almost 60 but very active and enterprising. “The implementation of this project taught us lots of things that I will personally try to implement in my own field such as making bunches, surrounding walls, land scarification or semi moon to capture rain for the soil”, says Moussa.

Benin Parliament votes Law on climate change regulation

Benin has taken an important step in its efforts to prevent, protect and manage the consequences of climate change that could affect the population in the short, medium and long term. Benin's National Assembly adopted the country's national legislation on 18 June 2018 to: (i) combat climate change and its negative effects and consequences and increase the resilience of living communities (ii) support effective response, adaptation and mitigation measures by setting specific targets for sustainable economic and social development, security and energy efficiency, in accordance with the specific provisions of national and international legal instruments on climate change.

“Enabling Delta Life- increasing cooperation for good governance to enhance climate resilience of communities in delta regions” is the title of the communication made by Dr. Fabien Hountondji, GWP WA Technical Committee member who represented the region at the Adaptation Future Conference 2018 in Cape Town, South Africa.
