Bratislava, 18 September 2014. Moldavian children have won the „International Danube Art Master 2014“ competition, as the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River and Global Water Partnership Central and Eastern Europe announced today.

GWP is involved in a number of events at this year’s World Water Week in Stockholm. Among the highlights is a joint GWP/OECD Side Event on the “Global Dialogue on Water Security and Sustainable Growth”, where a high level panel will address the water security challenge and present the early results of an Expert Task Force.

The Regional Coordinator (RC) heads the Secretariat of the Global Water Partnership-Caribbean (GWP-C). The RC is the ex officio Secretary of the GWP-C General Assembly and Steering Committee and performs such other functions as are entrusted by the Partnership.

GWP is introducing several new publications at World Water Week 2014: two GWP Technical Committee Background Papers, one Perspectives Paper, one Briefing Note and one Proceedings Paper. All of these are available online, and in hard copy through the GWP online order form.

On 27-28 November 2014 the Global Forum on Environment: "New Perspective on the Water-Energy-Food-Nexus" was held in the OECD headquarters in Paris.

The 3^rd Capacity Development workshop was held at the conference room of the SSNIT Guest House from 10^th to 13^th November, 2014 in Accra. The purpose of the workshop, among other things was to “Highlight Delivering of Investment Solution” for water security and climate resilient development. Also, it afforded participants the opportunity to increase their knowledge of practical steps needed to integrate no/low regret investments into the development planning process as well as how to develop financing strategies. The four-day programme was very educative and fun as participants embarked on an educational tour to the Akosombo dam, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)- Fisheries division, and Kpong Harbour, a fishing community at Kpong. Participants were provided with first-hand information on coping and adaptive strategies.

This paper answers the question of how to prioritize investments in water security. It explores the most important aspects for enabling growth and the most significant investments to increase water security. It also provides guidance on how economic considerations can inform the decisions of policy-makers on the allocation of resources to water management. This is a Technical Background Paper, written by the GWP Technical Committee, a group of internationally recognised professionals in integrated water resources management.
