The Global Water Partnership (GWP) staff in Zimbabwe attended World Water Day commemorations organised by Mukuvisi Woodlands Nature Reserve and Environment Centre incorporating the Eco Schools Environment Education Programme. The event was funded by the 3^rd European Union Water Facility Programme in Zimbabwe and  was held at Darwendale/Manyame Dam on the 25^th of March 2015. Apart from GWP, the event attracted 449 children and 74 teachers from 27 schools and 13 other organisations which included  the European Union (EU),Environment Africa (EA), Wildlife Conservation, Practical Action, Upper Manyame Sub Catchment Council (UMSCC) and National Parks.

Benin is one of the ten new countries included in the WACDEP 2 phase. A process was engaged to develop a project document for the country.

The 23rd International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage is organized by the Mexican National Committee of ICID (MXCID) from 8-14 October 2017 in Mexico City, Mexico. The main theme of the Congress is ‘Modernizing Irrigation and Drainage for a New Green Revolution’.

 

The World Water Day was commemorated in Uganda on Monday, 23 March 2015. The celebration ceremony took place at the new premises of the Directorate of Water Resources Management in Entebbe under the theme of Water and Sustainable Development.

International Women's Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8 every year to commemorate the movement for women's rights. For 2018, International Women’s Day comes on the heels of unprecedented global movement for women’s rights, equality and justice. This has taken the form of global marches and campaigns, including #MeToo and #TimesUp in the United States of America and their counterparts in other countries, on issues ranging from sexual harassment and femicide to equal pay and women’s political representation. In this context, the UN theme for the 2018 International Women’s Day is “Time is Now: Rural and urban activists transforming women’s lives”.

In Shaanxi Province, groundwater is a critical source of fresh drinking water for the local citizens and also supplying for the irrigated agriculture. Groundwater is also important in sustaining streams, lakes, wetlands and associated ecosystems. In the meantime, climate change affects ground water resources and is closely linked to other global change drivers, including population growth, urbanization and land-use change, coupled with other socio-economic trends.

Tuesday, 5 June 2018 - Pre-monsoon conditions in Sri Lanka have caused storms (with rainfall peaking at 350 mm over 24 hours) since 19 May 2018 in the southwest parts of the country. Precipitation triggered a flood and landslide situation across the country, affecting thousands of lives and livelihoods, as well as causing damage to property.

On December 21, 2016, the Water and Energy Sustainable Development Forum was held in Beijing. One of GWP China’s close partners, China Water & Power Press, organized the event. GWP China has helped it for designing, organizing and implementing the event, thus, was invited to be joint organizer.

Dr Jerome Delli Priscoli is the new Chair of the GWP Technical Committee. However, his history with the network goes back to 1996 at a meeting in Stockholm where GWP was conceived. “The work of GWP is born from a philosophy that is central to my own philosophy, which is a multi-stakeholder, participatory approach,” he says.
