Global Water Partnership Southern Africa supported the inception of the development of a comprehensive strategy for resource mobilization during the just-ended Zambia Stakeholder’s consultation workshop in Lusaka.

Chairs, Regional Coordinators, Programme Managers of Water, Climate and Development Programme (WACDEP), Senior Network Officers for Pan Asia met in Colombo, Sri Lanka on 12 and 13 September 2017 to develop the Pan Asia WACDEP Strategy document 2017-2019.

Key challenges to water security including, for instance, rapid population growth, climate change, and pollution are not bound to specific administrative boundaries. The transboundary cooperation programme was set up to address such critical challenges and promote good governance over shared water courses and aquifers.

Professor Adrian Cashman is Senior Lecturer at the University of West Indies and a member of GWP’s Technical Committee. He speaks of the recent Technical Focus Paper “IWRM in Central America: the over-riding challenge of managing transboundary waters” – an issue he says is now emerging globally.

Under the GWP Gender Strategy, Youth Strategy and SDGs Roadmap, GWP China has implemented them resulting in tailor-made processes for adequately GWP's concepts mainstreaming our regional policies and operations.

The populations of Ramitenga harvested on August 25, 2015 the corn grown on the demonstration site of the drip irrigation project. The quantity harvested has suffered damage caused by migratory birds that decimated almost 30% of the crops. According to the WACDEP Regional Manager, "the demonstration site was at that time the only place where birds could have something to eat, which accentuated their aggressiveness despite all the actions undertaken by project beneficiaries to hunt them."

GWP WA is one of the Focal points of the African Water Information and Documentation System (AWIS) managed by the ANBO through its Strengthening the Institutions of Transboundary Basins Organizations (SITWA) Project based at the OMVS in Dakar, Senegal. The workshop was to identify the main directions for a work plan addressing the identified needs and gaps of the African Water Information System (AWIS).
