Global climate is changing at an unprecedented rate and necessity of global political awareness that decisive action addressing climate change has risen over the last decades, but has often not translated into adaptation action. Especially the populations of global river deltas and coastal zones are vulnerable to the impacts of climate change occurring due to rising sea levels, increased magnitude and frequency of storms, flooding and salinisation. One of the main challenges faced by global institutions are to share gained knowledge, experience and expertise about adaptation in order to provide and implement the best possible adaptation measures to ensure human well-being.

After their recruitment as Technical Assistants, the two Young Professionals started the six-month internship on Monday 16th July 2018. The following day, they had an exchange session with the GWP-WA staff in order to get them to know the GWP network better and be familiar with the ongoing and planned actions and projects at regional and country levels.

The consultation is scheduled to be held from 13.30pm onwards on 15 November 2018 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMCH), Colombo.

GWP Southern Africa played a major role in Botswana's development of a national Integrated Water Resources Management and Water Efficiency (IWRM/WE) Plan. For the past century, Thailand had been experiencing constant severe floods which typically occurred in between August and December. Yet, the worst flood ever experienced in more than a half century in Thailand was the mega 2011 flood – indicating tremendous loss of lives and properties across socio-economic sectors. 

This year, GWP’s annual Network Meeting for Partners has been conducted for the first time in a “Follow-the-Sun” format. The objective being to engage as many of the network Partners as possible in a meaningful way, while keeping cost at bay, and also to make sure everyone who wanted could participate in their own language.

The workshop to launch the activities of the project "Ecosystem Conservation and International Water Resources Management of the Mano River Union" was held on 20 March 2018 in Abidjan, under the chairmanship of the Minister of Water and Forestry, represented by Colonel Yamani SORO, Director General of Water and Forestry.
