Senegal Country Water Partnership accredited

Nine Country Water Partnerships (CWP) are now accredited out of the thirteen in West Africa. At the end of September 2017, the Assembly of Partners of GWP West Africa recommended that Senegal and Ivory Coast CWPs make necessary steps to submit needed documents for their accreditation.

Outcomes of Asia Conference on Water-Related Disasters

GWP co-organised a session on the topic of water and disaster risk reduction in Asia during the recent Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR) in Mongolia. The session's outcome document highlights a number of ways to combat water-related disasters.

The event tackled the roles of LGUs, water districts, and stakeholders in the watersheds, updates and best practices in watershed management as well as other ingredients to ensure protection of our valued watersheds, in the context of planning, collaboration and action.

Safe drinking water for flood-prone districts of Bihar

Arsenic contamination of groundwater that considered endemic to North Eastern part of India, has now moving into Bihar state poisoning populations in 18 out of 38 districts of Bihar. Ineffective water purification and sewage systems as well as periodic monsoons and flooding in the area exacerbated the situation.

GWP CEE consulting stakeholders on SDG 6

National consultation workshops on SDG 6 were held in Central and Eastern Europe to consult stakeholders on assessing the implementation, monitoring and reporting process for indicator 6.5.1.

GWP-WA TEC members meet to plan action

After a meeting held with the new Technical Committee (TC) chair in November in Ouagadougou, a larger meeting with the Chair, all Technical Committee members and the staff of the Executive Secretariat was organized in Bamako on 13 to 15 December 2017. The meeting served as a platform for GWP-WA TC members to engage with the Chair and Executive Secretariat on how to work together to advance GWP work at the regional level and in countries in West Africa.

Partnership modality: Country-driven engagement

The Partnership engagement modality is country driven. Countries will provide leadership to the partnership, articulating the needs and priority support areas to advance preparation and implementation of climate resilient water projects. Country entities will also be the primary source of knowledge, best practices, and lessons to be shared among members of the Partnership, which promotes peer-to-peer learning.

Official handover ceremony at the regional secretariat

Dam MOGBANTE, outgoing regional coordinator of GWP West Africa has official handed over to the new coordinator, Armand HOUANYE during a ceremony in GWP WA premises in Ouagadougou on 20 November 2017. Many GWP regional partners including the Volta Basin Authority, CILSS, IUCN, CWP Burkina, ECOWAS/WRCC, GWP regional TEC chair, Steering committee members attended the ceremony.
