World Water Development Report in China

The World Water Development Report (WWDR) has played a key role in informing stakeholders, including decision-makers, worldwide as to the status of water resources in relation to the UN World Water Day themes each year.

Youth

In 2012, UN estimated that children and youth account for 43 percent of the world’s population. Asia is home to 738 million youth, which is 61 percent of the world’s youth. Two third of youth in developing countries are not employed with work, not studying, or engaged in irregular/informal employment. It is evident that unemployment is affecting young women more than young men in almost all regions of the world. These figures highlight an unutilised resources which represents almost the half of the total world population and having capable in playing an important role in transforming societies.

OSS and the Government of Uganda sign an Agreement for the Implementation of EURECCCA Project in Uganda

On 09 March 2017, the Executive Secretary of the Sahara and Sahel Observatory(OSS), Mr. Khatim Kherraz and the Ugandan Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Hon. Matia Kassaija signed in Kampala, Uganda and Agreement for the implementation of the project called “Enhancing resilience of communities to climate change through catchment based integrated management of water and related resources in Uganda” (EURECCCA).

Mekrou Project in Burkina, reducing conflicts is an important asset for development

Mr. COMBARI Diadonné Amidou, the mayor of Matiacoali is very enthusiastic with the material delimitation of the route for the cattle transiting from Niger to Benin. Every year the transhumance creates lots of conflicts between cattle breeders and farmers leading at time loss of life. The Prefect of Matiacoali is more specific on “the issue of conflicts between these two groups is a crucial reality in this area. The tribunal of the department has registered an average number of 18 conflicts between August 18 when I started service here and December 2016. The delimitation of these corridors for the benefit of the population will contribute to reduce drastically the conflicts”.

Benin, CWP experiments a new water consumption control project

On Wednesday 31 January 2018, the Via Water project was launched in Cotonou, Benin. The launch ceremony took place under the sponsorship of the Deputy Secretary General of the Minister of Water and Mines, in the presence of the actors of the consortium in charge of the said project, the representatives of public structures of the sub-sector, the Ministry of Health, the young water professionals of the Beninese Network of Youth of the World Water Parliament (RB/PMJE) and the economic operators of the water sector.

GWP-WA TEC members meet to plan action

After a meeting held with the new Technical Committee (TC) chair in November in Ouagadougou, a larger meeting with the Chair, all Technical Committee members and the staff of the Executive Secretariat was organized in Bamako on 13 to 15 December 2017. The meeting served as a platform for GWP-WA TC members to engage with the Chair and Executive Secretariat on how to work together to advance GWP work at the regional level and in countries in West Africa.
