Towards an equal, friendly and secured international community, China has developed the blueprint of “One Belt One Road” for multiple bonds with more than 60 countries in Asia, Europe and Africa to work for a community of shared benefits, destiny and responsibility. Tsinghua University founded the Institute of Global Development in 2016 for promoting the One Belt One Road at national, regional and global level.

GWP Senior Network Officer (SNO) Julienne ROUX took the opportunity of her stay in Ouagadougou to meet and get to know some of GWP/WA's strategic partners. The ‘Governance & Financing for the Mediterranean Water Sector’ Project was launched during a high–level conference organised by GWP-Med, in Barcelona, on 28-29 May 2013, in close cooperation and under the auspices of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Secretariat.

The official launch to restore the head source of the Mekrou basin was done on 20 June 2017 by the Mayor of Kouandé as part of the implementation of the Pilot Project to Support the Restoration of the Mekrou Basin (PAREM). This is the start of the campaign for the reforestation the site of “Makrou wirou” in the neighborhoods of Birni (commune of Kouandé).

GWP has published its Annual Report for 2014, highlighting network achievements across all regions. GWP China and other 12 regional partnerships have the highlights in the report.

The Norwegian government recently signed a 3-year donor agreement with GWP. Hans Olav Ibrekk represented the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at GWP’s Financing Partners Group meeting in December. He says GWP has a key role to play in developing the required capacity, analytical tools and approaches for decision makers to meet the growing and urgent need of improved water resources management.
