Stakeholders concerned with water management and food security recently gathered for the First World Irrigation Forum in Turkey. A GWP delegation participated and discussed future collaboration possibilities with forum organiser ICID (The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage).
The 7th SADC Multi Stakeholder Water Dialogue, a biennial activity which provides a platform for regional stakeholders to discuss and share experiences on different aspects of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) will this year be held from the 29th to the 30th of September in Windhoek, Namibia. Running under the theme “Watering Development in SADC: The central role of water in driving industrialization” this year's Water Dialogue will focus on unpacking the role that water will play in driving industrialisation in the region. As part of GWP’s programme to introduce its knowledge database, the IWRM Toolbox, into relevant university curricula, two workshops were held in China in September.
Preparations have started for the Learn and Share workshop with members of the Federation of Environmental Journalists (FEJ) of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
A WACDEP Burkina team met on August 19 the AEN team to discuss a kick off project for the involvement of the CWP in the Master plan. The mission aimed also at starting anew the consultations for the development of bancable projects in the basin.
According the WACDEP manager the CWP support will focus on water resources and climate change. And in this context the CWP has already supported the AEN in the development of the Massili local water committee (CLE Massili), in the development of the SDAGE and bankable projects that address new issues.
GWP-Med, along with Bewater Project partner, INRGREF, organised a national training in Zaghouan, Tunisia, for 30 Tunisian Youth NGO members active in water resources management issues, on November, 13th-14th, in order to raise their capacity to address the challenge of sustainable water resources management under climate change constraints.
