India Water Week-2016, 4-8 April 2016, New Delhi

India Water Week-2016 was held from 4 to 8 April 2016 with the theme of ‘Water for All: Striving together’. While the Inaugural and Plenary ceremony of the event took place at Vigyan Bhavan; the rest such as seminars, panel discussions, side events, exhibitions, brainstorming sessions, were held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Visit of regional Financial Officer

The financial Officer of the Global Water Partnership West Africa (GWP-WA) visited CWP-Ghana and partners from 30-31 May 2016. The main purpose of the visit was to interact with the project management team on progress of implementation of the recommendations from the 2014 and 2015 audit reports of WACDEP.

Strengthening collaboration with partners

Taking advantage of their presence in Ouagadougou, the GWP WAF chair, Abel AFOUDA and the network officer for West Africa visited with the Executive Secretary some of our partners. In view of getting in touch with the technical and financial partners, a series of meetings were organized.

Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation

The AMCOW Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Irrigation (Tanzania) will be holding the 6th Africa Water Week (AWW) and 10th General Assembly at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from 18th-22 July, 2016 under the theme ‘Achieving the SDGs on Water Security and Sanitation’.   The Tanzania Water Partnership has been co-opted by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation as one of the lead institutions constituting the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for the 6th Africa Water Week. Several members of TWP are part of the NOC.

Three factsheets on the three demonstration pilot projects of the Integrated Drought Management Project (IDMP) West Africa have been produced. These factsheets give basic information on the various pilots projects being carried our in Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger in the framework of the IDMP. Working meeting between GWP/WA and ECOWAS Water Resources Coordination Centre

Given the importance of WRCC in coordinating water resource management in West Africa in particular and that of ECOWAS generally politically and economically, and because of the many joint initiatives underway, GWP / WA met with the Director of WRCC, Ibrahim Babatunde WILSON. The GWP delegation led by its Chair, Prof. Afouda, included the Executive Secretary and the Mekrou and IDMP projects officers.
The two organizations raised a number of initiatives underway at GWP / WA of which WRCC is an integral part, including the Mekrou project, IDMP, or those in which the WRCC should take the lead like the initiative on the regional dialogue on the joint management of shared aquifers in West Africa.

Nearly 80% of economies of the countries of Eastern Africa and Greater Horn of Africa are agriculture dependents. Agriculture consumes more water than any other human activity and human survival in this region will continue to need among other requirements sufficient food and water.
